Love is on the Air… with a Record 3.4m VIewers
LOVE ISLAND’s telly return gave ITV2 its biggest-ever audience — as a record 3.4million viewers tuned in for their reality TV fix.
The show’s series four launch attracted an average audience of 2.95million — more than double the 1.3million who watched 2017’s season premiere.
And TV bosses are to set to send a fresh dose of double trouble into the Mallorcan villa to keep fans glued to their TV sets.
At the end of last night’s episode, producers teased that Georgia Steel, 20, and Rosie Williams, 26, will join the cast in the coming days to shake up the existing couples.
Student Georgia, who also works as a barmaid in London, says her romances often get blurred, adding: ‘I’ve never been cheated on and I’ve not cheated on someone before. I may have kissed two guys in one week but I wasn’t ever in a serious relationship.’
As for Rosie, who has quit her job as a solicitor, she boasts she has a winner’s smile. ‘Everyone comments on my smile. I always smile, I don’t like to be miserable,’ the part-time model of Rhondda, South Wales, told fans in a promo.
The duo will be added to the mix to put pairings under pressure — a tactic TV bosses pursued from the get-go by introducing Geordie personal trainer Adam Collard, 22, at the end of the first episode. The 22-year-old set pulses racing when it was announced he would be breaking up one of the first five couples — and he wasted no time showing fans what’s in store during a naked shower scene.
Monday’s launch show also gave ITV2 its biggest-ever audience share — 16.4 per cent — data shows.
At the same time, 1.73million tuned in to watch BBC1’s Suffragettes with Lucy Worsley.
